What 현타 means
After hours of games, impulse shopping, or procrastination, the moment you notice tomorrow’s responsibilities may bring 현타. It often appears as 현타가 오다. The situation and tone help determine how natural the expression sounds.
A short conversation
A: 새벽 세 시까지 게임했어.
B: 아침 알람 울리면 현타 오겠네.
A: I gamed until 3 a.m.
B: Reality will hit when the alarm rings.
Use it with care
It is a casual, subjective expression. A reality check can be mild; do not treat it as a diagnosis or assume the person needs advice.
A neutral or polite alternative: 갑자기 현실을 깨달았어요. — Reality suddenly hit me.
