헐 (heol) — Whoa; seriously?; oh wow.

What 헐 means
헐 is a quick reaction to surprise, disbelief, disappointment or an absurd situation. The word does not tell the listener whether the surprise is good or bad; the context and voice do.
A short conversation
A: 오늘 기온이 38도래.
B: 헐, 진짜?
A: They say the temperature is 38 degrees today.
B: Whoa, seriously?
How to understand the expression
The example uses -대 to report something heard elsewhere. You do not need to master that ending to understand the reaction 헐, 진짜? First practise recognizing the emotional response. For serious situations, choose a complete, considerate reply instead of borrowing a short reaction simply because you have seen it in a chat.
Use it with care
Extremely casual. Avoid using it as your only response when someone shares painful or serious news.
