From Monday to Friday, from nine to five, from Seoul to Busan—Korean marks the beginning and end of a range with two useful pairs.
What Does N부터 N까지, N에서 N까지 Mean?
Use N부터 N까지 mainly for a time range and N에서 N까지 for a place range. 부터 or 에서 marks the starting point, and 까지 marks the endpoint.
The Rule
Time: 아홉 시부터 다섯 시까지 (from nine to five). Place: 서울에서 부산까지 (from Seoul to Busan). Attach each particle directly to its noun. 까지 can also stand alone to mean “up to/until.”

A Short Dialogue
A: 도서관은 몇 시부터 몇 시까지 열어요? — From what time to what time is the library open?
B: 오전 아홉 시부터 오후 여섯 시까지 열어요. — It is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
A: 여기에서 도서관까지 멀어요? — Is it far from here to the library?
B: 아니요, 걸어서 십 분이에요. — No, it is a ten-minute walk.
A Common Mistake to Avoid
For a place range, do not replace 에서 with the destination particle 에: 서울에서 부산까지 is the normal beginner pattern. With time, 부터 makes the starting boundary clear. A sentence may omit the starting point when it is understood: 다섯 시까지 공부해요 (I study until five).
