Use the dialogue to practice responding, not only repeating. Identify the turns before you begin.
Try it step by step
On the first round, listen to one role and speak the other role during pauses. On the second, swap roles. If the recording gives you too little time, use the pause button after every turn.
Check your progress
Try the exchange with a partner or your own paused recording. Can you respond to the previous line without restarting from the beginning? Note the turn that needs another practice.
Change roles without restarting
The following is an original practice example for the skill above. It is separate from the chapter recordings and is not a transcript.
Practice this complete exchange. A: 뭐 마실까요? — What shall we drink? B: 저는 차를 마실 거예요. — I’m going to drink tea. A: 그럼 저는 커피를 마실 거예요. — Then I’m going to drink coffee. 차 is tea; 커피 is coffee.
Try the example yourself
Round 1: take role B and replace 차 with 물 (water). Round 2: take role A and suggest asking what to eat, using 뭐 먹을까요? Let your partner choose the food.
Model answers and why they work
An example for round 1 is 저는 물을 마실 거예요. For round 2: A. 뭐 먹을까요? B. 저는 빵을 먹을 거예요. The reply means “I’m going to eat bread.” 마시다 goes with a drink; 먹다 goes with food.
Leave your partner time to answer. If you forget a line, use 다시 말해 주세요 — “Please say it again.” Responding to the other person is more useful than reciting your half of the conversation regardless of what they say.
