Hear familiar words in a sentence
Choose up to five words you recognize from the recording. A word you know on paper can sound less separate when spoken inside a sentence.
Try it step by step
Write each word and a short meaning. Replay the sentence containing it, then repeat the sentence rather than the isolated word alone. Use the textbook to check spelling when available.
Check your progress
Cover your word list and listen again. Mark only words you actually recognize by sound. Revisit the sentence around any word you missed.
Find a known word inside a sentence
The following is an original practice example for the skill above. It is separate from the chapter recordings and is not a transcript.
Start with three words: 도서관 (library), 책 (book), and 친구 (friend). Read 도서관에서 책을 읽어요: “I read a book at the library.” The words do not appear alone: 도서관 has 에서 after it, and 책 has 을. Recognizing the noun together with its particle helps you follow the sentence.
Try the example yourself
Find the place and the thing or person in each sentence: ① 카페에서 친구를 만나요. ② 집에서 음악을 들어요. Use 카페 (café), 집 (home), 음악 (music), and 만나다 (meet) as clues.
Model answers and why they work
① Place: 카페; person: 친구. The sentence means “I meet a friend at a café.” ② Place: 집; thing: 음악. It means “I listen to music at home.”
Read one sentence aloud, look away, and identify the two key words. Next repeat the complete sentence. A partner can read one of the examples in a different order while you identify it. This checks recognition without requiring a long vocabulary list.
