Listen for sentence endings
Replay a short sentence and listen to its final syllables. Pause after the voice finishes and repeat the whole sentence, keeping the ending audible.
Try it step by step
Choose three short sentences. Copy each ending in your notebook, then say the full sentence twice: once with the recording and once without it. If you have the textbook, compare your notes with the printed text.
Check your progress
Record the three sentences on your own device. Can you hear every ending in your recording? Repeat just the unclear sentence rather than starting the entire video again.
Hear the whole ending
The following is an original practice example for the skill above. It is separate from the chapter recordings and is not a transcript.
Compare 저는 학생이에요 (I am a student) and 저는 학생이 아니에요 (I am not a student). The noun 학생 stays the same, but the ending changes the message. Read each sentence slowly, including the final 요. Do not stop at 학생.

Complete the sentence for each situation: ① You are a student: 저는 학생____. ② You are a teacher, not a student: 저는 학생____. 선생님이에요.
Model answers and why they work
① 저는 학생이에요. ② 저는 학생이 아니에요. 선생님이에요. In the negative sentence, leave a space before 아니에요. Read the pair aloud and ask a partner which sentence means “not a student.”
Now choose a noun that describes you. Say one true sentence and one negative sentence. You can use 학생 (student), 선생님 (teacher), or 회사원 (office worker). Keep the final ending clear rather than stressing every syllable equally.
