Change one detail carefully
Choose one sentence you understand. Make a new sentence by changing only a familiar noun, name, place, or other detail that fits that sentence.
Try it step by step
Write the original sentence and your new version underneath. Check any particle or ending affected by the change. For example, changing 책 to 가방 keeps 이에요, while changing it to 사과 requires 예요. This is an additional practice example, not a video transcript.
Check your progress
Say your new sentence without reading. Ask whether it expresses something you actually intend. If you are unsure about the grammar, keep the original and ask your teacher.
Change the noun and check the ending
The following is an original practice example for the skill above. It is separate from the chapter recordings and is not a transcript.
Read 이것은 책이에요 — “This is a book.” Change 책 (book) to 사과 (apple): 이것은 사과예요. Because 사과 ends in a vowel, the ending changes too. Changing one detail can require a second small grammar change.
Try the example yourself
Rewrite these sentences with the word in brackets: ① 이것은 책이에요. (가방, bag) ② 이것은 책이에요. (의자, chair) ③ 책을 사요. (사과, apple).
Model answers and why they work
① 이것은 가방이에요. 가방 ends in a consonant. ② 이것은 의자예요. 의자 ends in a vowel. ③ 사과를 사요. The object particle changes from 을 to 를 after the vowel-ending noun.
Before speaking, check two things: does the new word fit the meaning, and does its final sound affect the attached form? Then cover your written answer and say it while pointing to an object or imagining it. This is a manageable way to create a new sentence without changing every part at once.
